Low or $0 monthly plan premium*, Part B Premium Reduction Giveback benefits, routine dental, vision, hearing, additional providers outside the VA & community care network — offered through Humana & UnitedHealthcare
Medicare Advantage plans like Humana USAA Honor and UnitedHealthcare AARP Patriot are designed with veterans in mind and seamlessly work alongside your current VA benefits. These plans are open to all Medicare beneficiaries that qualify.
Since these MA-Only Medicare Advantage plans were designed with veterans in mind, you don’t need a separate prescription drug plan offered through Part D. You would continue to use your Tricare For Life (Express Scripts Drug Plan), CHAMPVA for dependents, if applicable (Express Scripts Drug Plan), and/or VA prescription drug benefit. Typically, plans from Humana and UnitedHealthcare may include low or $0 monthly plan premium products, benefits not covered by Original Medicare like routine dental, vision, hearing, and Part B Premium Reduction Giveback benefits.
You can keep using your VA benefits just like you always have while gaining access to non-VA providers and additional benefits not covered by the VA or Original Medicare.
The Part B Premium Reduction Giveback benefit is not immediate. It may take 90–120 days to be reflected on your Social Security statement. The beneficiary will have less taken from their Social Security check for the coverage of their Part B premium. Those paying their Part B premium directly will see this benefit as a credit on their premium statement. The giveback amount may change based on the amount you pay for Part B.
With No Impact on Your Existing VA Benefits
Benefits listed below are offered by plans from Humana and UnitedHealthcare and vary by plan and county.
Veterans who enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan that offers the Part B Premium Reduction Giveback benefit will have less taken from their Social Security check for the coverage of their Part B premium. Those paying their Part B premium directly will see this benefit as a credit on their premium statement. The giveback amount may change based on the amount you pay for Part B. Benefits offered through Humana and UnitedHealthcare.
See in-network providers without the VA referral wait times. With reduced wait times and no referrals, seek treatment and care for your emergency & urgent care needs, specialist visits, and routine care while reducing your out-of-pocket expenses — use your benefits, your way, on your schedule. Available through Humana and UnitedHealthcare plans.
VA dental insurance can be expensive and is another monthly cost to budgets that are already stretched thin. Also, the VA’s limited dental coverage is only for those that qualify. Medicare Advantage routine dental benefits through Humana and UnitedHealthcare may cover two cleanings & exams per year at no additional cost plus preventive dental services at $0 copay.
Routine eye exams, eyewear allowances, hearing exams, and hearing aid coverage through Humana and UnitedHealthcare plans. Essential benefits that become more important every year.
In-network mental health services — virtual or in-person. Seek care without a VA referral for PTSD, depression, and other mental health support. Covered services and copays vary by plan. Available through Humana and UnitedHealthcare plans.
Fitness memberships, over-the-counter product allowances, and additional wellness benefits are available and are typically included with each MA-Only Medicare Advantage plan from Humana and UnitedHealthcare.

These are the answers to the most-asked questions.
“Forrest has personally helped me with my annual Medicare review to facilitate my understanding and knowledge. Forrest has made a positive impact in my life and has enhanced my healthcare benefits to the fullest extent possible, while reducing my out-of-pocket costs. I’m thankful and truly honored that I can call Forrest my trusted advisor, and dear friend.”
“Forrest, like myself, is a ‘Soldier for Life’ who has captured the essence of a Warrior’s Spirit and our Army’s culture. As a retired military JAG officer and Medicare Beneficiary myself, I too have entrusted Forrest for his guidance and advice. He is committed and dedicated to his profession, and epitomizes our Army values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage.”
“It’s been a great year for me, health benefit wise. Thank you so very much for spearheading my getting enrolled in Humana – USAA Honor Giveback Plan. I work and volunteer at three different USO Lounges in the greater Washington DC area, and often times I have politely inquired into their Medicare provider status. I provide highlights about the Humana-USAA plan that Forrest got me enrolled in and they are all astonished. I think I have given your name, phone and email address to a good 20 eligible military retirees this past year. You were extremely, extremely helpful last year in getting me enrolled.”
Forrest Gibbes is a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel who continues to serve his fellow Brothers and Sister-In-Arms — with a combined 30+ years of service, specifically with the U.S. Army. He specializes in employee benefits and retirement planning, helping soldiers and federal employees navigate complex systems like Civil Service Retirement, pension maximization, survivor annuities, and Social Security.
After retiring in 2018, Forrest founded Grace Rose Health Consultants with a simple mission: help veterans understand their Medicare options. He now leads a team of nine licensed insurance agents that specialize in Medicare and personally helps veterans and their spouses understand their Medicare options — the same way he spent three decades helping service members understand their benefits.
He represents both Humana and UnitedHealthcare, so he can match you to the plan that fits your situation — not just one carrier’s product. And because he’s been where you are, he’ll give you a straight answer, not a sales pitch.
